Silhouette Cameo and Bluetooth ..

CONNECTING TO YOUR SILHOUTTE DEVICE 4 USING BLUETOOTH

I have done ALOT of research on the bluetooth connectivity and dongle that comes with the Cameo 4.  Here is what I have found out, I hope it helps someone out.

By now you would have worked out the following units have bluetooth connectivity as a feature:
  • Cameo 3
  • Cameo 4
  • Cameo Plus
  • Cameo Pro.
  • Portrait 2
  • Portrait 3

However there are many factors that can inhibit bluetooth connectivity including distance to machine, computer components, walls, concrete, software, internet/wifi connection and user knowledge. The main one being that the bluetooth dongle that comes with your machine is JUNK!
Here is some info on how to connect via bluetooth:
The machines all come with a bluetooth adapter/dongle that is installed in the undercarriage via a screwed in lid section and it can be taken out and changed. You can take out the adapter that it came with and change it to for a better performing unit without voiding your warranty. Just keep it aside in a separate bag incase you ever need to swap it back.
If you want to have connectivity, the best option is to upgrade the dongle. The details for the one you need to purchase are: Size: 18.5mm wide x 28mm long. Type: The chip type for the Bluetooth® dongle/adapter must be the following CSR chip. CSR8510 A10.
This is the one I purchased from amazon: Onvian Bluetooth Adapter USB CSR 4.0 Dongle Receiver Transfer Wireless for Laptop PC Computer. https://www.amazon.com.au/.../ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title...
It appears the dongle I purchased is no longer available. Here is my amazon search to ones that will do the same thing. I put 'CSR8510 A10" in the search bar and here are the results. The CSR8510 A10 is the important partAmazon Search Link

How to change your adapter over: Find the Bluetooth panel on the bottom of the Silhouette cutting machine (as indicated by the word "Bluetooth" on the panel) Use a small Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw on the panel. Once the panel is opened, you will see a small Bluetooth adapter plugged into the machine Use the prongs on the Blade Adjustment Tool (received with your cutting machine - or some tweezers) to unplug and remove the adapter. Insert the new adapter into the slot and push it in tightly Replace the Bluetooth panel and screw into place.
I hope this information helps all those people that have not been able to make it happen. My Cameo 4 lives in the 'making room with the 3D printer and all the other noisy toys' between my desk here in the study are 3 walls and 2 doors. The wifi unit is in the pantry of my kitchen with the door closed and I dont have any connectivity issues.

Cheers
Janet
