SUYS July Design Team Entry - back to nature

Wow! What a tricky one this turned out to be for July! .. I couldnt find an image that worked so I had to visit the local show to take one while at the rescue koala pavillion!

I was unsure of how to make this all work and started out with some smears of colourblast colour paste in chocolate? on the background, had a sudden idea to add some gum leaves so out come the ancient HS leaves stencil which I the traced around and then filled in with watered down gelatos. Lastly I added some green and brown sharpie marker around the leaves and inside them.

I glued all the resin leaves down with E6000 by helmar.

Items Used:
Resin Leaves from The Resin Rainbow
Metallic Looking Mesh from Sirrah Sirrah as part of the goodie bag at Escape to Create recently.
Various paper layers from my stash.

Thanks for looking ..

suys June Design team Entry!

Welcome to June!

This layout came together really quickly once I found the image I was after!
The challenge for this month was to use 2 colours next to each other on the colour wheel.
Normally with a colour wheel you use a colour opposite so they compliment each other but in this instance it was slightly trickier!

The pic of my crazy daughter on crazy sock day at school was perfect with a mix of blue and green in the image already.

Products Used:
Parts of the tulip border by The Resin Rainbow
Green Resin Doily by The Resin Rainbow
Green & Blue Resin Dots
White Resin Deer from Forest Animals Resin Set at The Resin Rainbow
Blue Bow by Rainbow Splendour
Striped Pin by Rainbow Splendour
Green Daisy Pin by an old scrap company thepaintbrushgoesspotty
Various papers from my stash or from Rainbow Splendour Kits

Thanks for looking.

White With 1.. May 2017 .. Deep Black

Welcome to May!
Can someone flew me where the last 4 months went to?, they have flown past!

I got a  bit clever with my title for this one. I took the chipboard word and coloured it with acrylic paint with a lettter per colour, added some crackle medium and then black paint over the top! .. while I wanted it to pop with full bright colour, that wouldn't have worked with the guidelines for the challenge or the layout! .. had forgotten all about that technique!

Products Used
Black booktape used as a tag strip
Resin Scroll Border from The Resin Rainbow (was cut up and glued ontop of strip)
White circle chipboard frame
Hexagon stencil with gesso and back paint on the background
Rainbow striped resin dots from The Resin Rainbow ..

Thanks for looking!

SUYS Feb Design Team Entry

Welcome to February! .. had lots of fun playing with the challenge at Show Us your Stuff for this month!

I started with a swipe of silver paint using a brayer, then I added some 'sunshine' colourblast texture paste over the top using a very vintage HS dots 'mask'. Did some searching for a pattern paper with a cute border edge that I added on.
Somewhere in the middle of the night, I had the idea to add some silver/grey crepe paper as a sewn ruffle border to the side.
After that the colours just came just happened. I went for a pastel pallete with baby pink, lemon, mint, cream and a pop of colour using a white/black spotty card. All cards came from my stash of ephemera.

I received a new mold for The Resin Rainbow .. just as I was starting this layout and knew I was going to incorporate it somehow. So I cut up a part of the bespoke flower and pushed them into spot.

Items Used:
paper flowers all by D-Lish Scraps.

SUYS January 2017 DT Entry ..

Welcome to January!

With summer comes water, beaches and plenty of sunshine!  .. it was a no brainer for this layout to fall into place and a pic of my DD building a HUGE sandcastle on a beach on the Gold Coast, Qld kinda made it all work.

Here is the idea that the design team had to create with!

I grabbed a few pattern papers in colours & patterns that worked well with my mage and tore them up into smaller bits. I layered them over and under each other to make a paper collage and then added a coat of clear gel medium afterwards to keep them in place.

Items used:
yellow glitter stars & 2 butterflies by Rainbow Splendour
Happy Days chipboard word by Corbett Creations
Felt Bow by Dlish scraps.

you can see the rest of the amazing design teams January entries here! ..and dont forget to submit your own to win a prize pack from Burdies Embellishments!

White .. with 1 November Creative Team .. Niagara

I had a ball playing with Niagara this month and had the perfect image for it.
Its a pic of someone I love very much doing his amazing job as a photojournalist for the defence force. For security reasons (much like a dentist lol) I had to blur his face out but you get the idea still. He looks damn handsome in his service dress uniform. Pic was taken earlier this year in Belgium at the Anzac Day celebrations to comemorate 100 years since WW1. You can see some of his amazing work on the defence force you-tube channel if your interested.

A quick breakdown of the embellishments used:

Have a super Month!

White .. with 1 July Challenge - Island Paradise

Hello Everyone

Welcome to July!  .. how did that happen so fast ??

I absolutely love the colour for this month 'Island Paradise' it makes me think of sunshine, water, swimming and all things summer. It sure doesnt feel like summer right now in Brisbane Qld Australia with a high of 16deg! ..

The pics are of my youngest on a recent family holiday to somewhere very warm (Penang, Malaysia). He became a steam pork bun addict in no time at all and even figured out how to say it in Malaysian so that the sellers at the macaan stalls would give him an extra one for free!

SUYS March Challenge ..sponsored by Rainbow Splendour

I admit that this challenge at first had me a tad stumped. not for long though. I just needed more than 5 seconds to look at the challenge sketch and look at my images printed to find some that worked!

The sponsor this month is the amazing Rainbow Splendour! .. You can see all their amazing goodies here

As always I have gone with my own bright funky style using some paint and gesso with the TH 'faded dots' mask along with TH stains in mustard seed, blueprint sketch and cracked pistachio.

I tore up some bright pink tissue paper and kinda roughly applied it with gel medium down the sides in a very rough way. In real life it's really bumpy and not at all smooth. The paper has a white star pattern through it but it didn't come out so well on scanning it.

The title is done with Thickers by Amy Tangerine in 'momento' font. I love how the teal colour pops with all the big stain splashes.

Clear Triangles, teal flower and orange heart are by The Resin Rainbow (facebook & etsy store)
The Chevron Rainbow clip is by Rainbow Splendour.
The Red bird was also handmade many moons ago by Leanne Pearce from
http://thepaintbrushgoesspottie.blogspot.com.au back when she had an etsy store.

Well now that you have seen mine, show me yours! .. You can go to the Show Us Your Stuff blog for all the details and to upload your entry:)

Enjoy Your Month!

Cheers

Kraft + December Challenge–Wanderlust

I am very fortunate to be asked to play along with the Kraft + challenge for December as The Resin Rainbow is happily donating a $10 prize pack to one lucky challenge entry!

The moment I received the details for the challenge I KNEW exactly what image I was going to use. Our Family tends to do ALOT of holidaying and every few years we move houses/states!  .. so yes, we are slightly nomadic!

This image was taken at Murray Bridge SA as we were leaving Adelaide last December for our new home in Brisbane. It has our car and campertrailer in the background as this a view out of my side mirror. All our worldy goods (complete with 2 children and the greyhound!) are packed into the car and camper and we had a great roadtrip/holiday on the way up.

Ingredients Used:
  • Ancient Old Map paper that I had hoarded from a kit from along time ago. I used gel medium to adhere it to the background.
  • Ink is Tim Holtz.
  • Black and White Paint is by Colour Blast. It is their colour paste in charcoal and snow white.
  • HS Deco tape torn into small parts
  • Making Memories Travel Word Tags (circa 2004)
  • Grid Builders Tape
  • Flair Map Arrow Button from Funky Flair Studio
  • Red Resin Alphabet and Black/White Dots from The Resin Rainbow or buy the products here
Thanks for looking!

WW1 December Challenge–Majorca Blue

I had so much fun playing with this colour and finding an image that just suited it so well. There was no doubt it was going to be an image of my lil dude, it was just a which one?

This image was taken on a day when he had had a BIG day with face painting, lots of fun and of course, the afternoon breakdown. It always coincides with face painting so he ends up looking like a bad version of the ‘dark knight’ with a very smudged face and super puffy eyes.

janet

The title actually says ‘why so glum chum’ but because I used the clear resin alphabet from The Resin Rainbow and smeared some blue ink over the top its not showing up so well. The close-up images below show it much better!

IMG_6525

Ingredients Used:
Resin Alphabet, ball border peices, cut up white mandala and blue star are all from The Resin Rainbow on etsy and on Facebook.
White muslin behind title from the first aid kit in the kitchen.
Want to see whatelse the rest of the CT girls have done with this amazing colour: go and check out the WW1 Blog for lots of fab inspiration!

Kraft+ November Challenge ‘pink’

I was lucky enough to asked to be a guest designer for this colour due to my store The Resin Rainbow also sponsoring a prize for the month! The Resin Rainbow are providing a prize pack valued at $15 for one lucky scrapper!

12041989_10205259350346904_1826955331_n

I went with some lyrics from Pink’s song ‘less than perfect’ to tie in with the theme. My crazy daughter had got redskin lolly stuck in her long hair after gymnastics ones wednesday. Yes, I know (how?) and yes, it was fun to get out too. Lots of hair washing and shampoo helped it to ‘melt’.

The lyrics I used are on the layout, but you can see them in full here.

White. with 1 November Grape Challenge / Nov 2015

This colour was one that I loved playing with. I started this layout at the Workshop Wonders in August in the amazing Beck Beattie’s workshop and it evolved!   The purple was just the perfect colour to bring life to this picture and make it all so very pretty! ..

The ‘make a wish’ word, hessian star, black frame, big grape paper flower were included in the workshop kit.

The circle stamp background is from Beck’s own stash.

White.. with 1 August / Custard Challenge

No matter what I did, I could not get this layout to scan properly and colour correcting it was a nightmare! .. It is still too blue. Its not in real life but it just wouldnt change!

custard

An amazing colour that was soo very easy to play with and worked really well with this image of my hubby and I on one of our last ‘motorbike date nights’ when we were living in Adelaide.

The background was done with some ‘smooshing’ using Tim Holtz stain in Banana and swiped with some white gesso as well. There is also some mesh tape from bunnings on it for texture.
The black painted  ‘memory’ is from HS and the other letters were painted with TH banana stain paint.
The white filigree layering piece on the left, the black doily and the yellow resin dots are all from The Resin Rainbow. She has a an online store on ebay and on facebook with lots of gorgeous and unique products.
The White rose had some paint and glitter splashed on it, it along with the black sequins are from D-lish ScrapsThe Flair is from Funky Flairs Studio.

Kraft + Challenge for August (Zentangle Doodling)

10409228_1002351409776723_2217537075548657307_n
I wasn’t sure if I was going to get the chance to enter the kraft+ challenge this month but I was looking through (my ever increasing) mould stash and came across the perfect resin piece for it!  So I went for it and locked in a few hours to procrastinate, make 3 different backgrounds before I liked this one and made it work!

TRR zentangle
Kraft Aug Zentangle Challenge
This layout after the initial hiccups fell into place really quickly. I wanted the image of “oscar’ to be the focal and not the doodling so I kept it fairly minimal and to the side. I didnt use the whole resin layer, I cut it up using my Tim Holtz rubber scissors.
There is journalling but its on the back, I find that I do that quite often with my pages. It reads “Oscar - He was a really sweet baby kitty but unfortunately we couldn’t convince the other furry member of our home (a rescue greyhound) that Oscar was friend not food. She was just a little bit curious about him to make ours a permanent home for him. We have our suspicions that in ‘her past life’ Harper (the elegant and very easygoing, loyalloves everyone and shares her food with the other cat and chickens) may have dealt with kittens in a different way. We were not sure if she wanted to mother him or smother him. It wasn’t a chance we wanted to take.

Some close-up images and a breakdown of supplies ..
Kraft Aug Zentangle Challenge Parts
Zentangle Resin Layer Piece and alphabet letters in ‘Oscar’ from The Resin Rainbow on ebay or facebook.
Mirror Circle Dots were purchased from a craft show earlier this year.
Black/White lined paper is about 10-12 years old and from my scraps drawer. I think it was done by Paper Pizzaz (who are no longer around).
